The 'United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (commonly known as the United Kingdom, the UK, or Britain) is a constitutional monarchy located off the northwestern coast of continental Europe. It is an island country, spanning an archipelago including Great Britain, the northeastern part of Ireland, and many small islands. The United Kingdom is a unitary state consisting of four countries: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. It is governed by a parliamentary system with its seat of government in London, the capital, but with three devolved national administrations in Belfast, Edinburgh, and Cardiff. Prior to 1921, all of Ireland was in the United Kingdom.
As England contains the greater part of the Kingdom's land and population, the term England is often used interchangeably (but inaccurately) with United Kingdom and (Great) Britain.
The Frankenstein mythos has many connections to Britain. Frankenstein author Mary Shelley was from England, and parts of the novel are set in England, Scotland, and Ireland. Many of the actors in Frankenstein movies are from Britain, and some movies are set there as well.
